Inner Peace and Joy Tip: Let Sleeping Dogs Lie

LET SLEEPING DOGS LIE

When working on developing a "Positive Mindset" is going to be important that you  remember the concept "Let Sleeping Dogs Lie". What I mean by letting sleeping dogs lie is... "There are going to be times in your life that  you will encounter people who may not be on the same positive path that you are on.

These people may  see you as "too happy" or "too positive" and because they have not developed a positive way to respond to life's challenges they may try to shoot you down with their words just to get you to get you on their level.

When you find yourself in such a situation you can do one of two things.
#1 You can try to convince them to see life from your perspective or
#2 You can just accept the fact that the person is not traveling the same mental journey that you are on and instead of arguing with that person or taking their remarks personal you can "let sleeping dogs lie"

Tips To Help You "Let Sleeping Dogs Lie"
1. Pick your battles
2. Stop taking things so personal
3. Don't allow people to defer their problems on you
4. Release and Let Go
5. Forgive others and yourself

Inner Peace and Joy Daily Tip: Make Home Work Fun

I work with high-risk boys as a youth counselor and assisting them with their math homework assignments can be very stressful at times, especially when they are not interested in learning math. I hear the boys state often that learning math for them is stressful because math is boring. When I am helping the boys with their math homework, the first thing that I do is figure out how to hold their attention by finding out what are the things that they enjoy most. I know that if I can get them to identify with the things that they enjoy most, then I can get them interested in learning. If I can get them interested in learning, then helping them with their math homework will not be so stressful. For instance, I know that the boys really enjoy football so I use football to show them how to understand the principles of math and how to make learning math fun.

Football Rules Made Simple

1. There is an offensive and defensive team
2. The objective of the football game is to score in the end zone and the team with the highest score at the end of the game wins
3. The middle of the football field is the 50-yard line. The numbers on the football field increase and decrease in increments of 10

How to Use Football to teach Math

1. Let the students name their teams based on their favorite college or NFL team
2. Draw a replica of a football field on the chalk board
3. Use colored chalk to write out the plays "math problems" and to show the movement of the football on the field

Math Problem #1
How to Teach Subtraction: 50-20=?

"Team A" has possession of the football on the 50-yard line. The Play: the Quarterback throws the football down the field. The Receiver runs down the field and catches the football at the 20- yard line. If "Team A " started at the 50-yard line and now has possession of the football at the 20-yard line how many yards did the Receiver on "Team A " gain on the play? Answer 30-yards.

Math Problem #2
How to Teach Addition 10 +30 =?

"Team B" is at the 10-yard line. The Play: The Quarterback is going to pass the football to the Running back and see how many yards he can gain on the play. The play is successful! The Running back on "Team B" gained 30-yards. If the play started at the 10 yard-line and the Running Back gained 30 yards, Where is the ball positioned at the start of the new play? Answer- 40 yard line.

I find that children who are challenged socially learn better when you can hold their attention. If you implement football or any other sport in the learning process, it helps make teaching math less stressful because it makes learning interesting. Football also allows you to involve the children in the learning process and that will help them to remember the mathematical concepts.

Inner Peace and Joy Daily Tip # 74 : Take a Warm Bubble Bath

Inner Peace and Joy Daily Meditation Tip: The Book of Psalms will uplift your soul. Read Psalms chapters 56-60 for a Spirit Booster!

There is Just Something About Bubbles
One of the first things that I learned while working on my Inner Peace is that I have limited control over my outside circumstances but I have total control over how I respond to my outside circumstances.

Once I figured that out, I begin to try to find things that I could do to help me stay peaceful on the inside regardless of what was going on in my life.

My favorite tool to help me calm down after a hectic or a stressful day is to take a warm bubble bath. I also like to place candles along side the tub. If I am really feeling like treating myself I sprinkle rose pedals in the water as well.

I don't stop there! Before I get into the tub, I place my favorite soft drink beverage , which is a "Vault", in a chilled wine glass and I turn on my favorite "Oldie but Goldies" music CD. Then I relax for about a half hour.

It never fails, after I finish taking my warm bubble bath I am refocused and back to my peaceful and calm self.

How do you relax?

Inner Peace and Joy Tip#68: Count Slowly

Inner Peace and Joy Daily Meditation Tip: The Book of Psalms will uplift your soul. Read Psalms chapters 26- 30 for a Spirit Booster!

Have you ever been in a stressful situation and you could not leave the room. Well, I am in this situation daily. I manage a group home for at risk boys and they threaten my inner peace daily. If you have teenage children then you know that they require your attention and they have special needs that you must attend to. This can be stressful but it does not have to be once you learn how to master your stress from the inside out and not outside in.

Now when I am in a stressful situation, such as one of the boys may be verbally abusive or causing chaos, at the same time another boy may need my assistance, and to top it all off the phone is ringing. In a situation such as this, I really want to just pull my hair and run out of the house but the reality of the situation is I can not leave the boys unattended.

So, what I do is a breathing exercise. This exercise is really quick and you can do it right where you are at.

Exercise
Try counting from 1-10 very slowly. As you count inhale and exhale
  • 1 (deeply inhale) (slowly exhale)
  • 2 (deeply inhale) (slowly exhale)
  • 3 (deeply inhale) (slowly exhale)
  • 4 (deeply inhale) (slowly exhale)
  • 5 (deeply inhale) (slowly exhale)
  • 6 (deeply inhale) (slowly exhale)
  • 7 (deeply inhale) (slowly exhale)
  • 8 (deeply inhale) (slowly exhale)
  • 9 (deeply inhale) (slowly exhale)
  • 10 (deeply inhale) (slowly exhale)
When you count 1-10 very slowly, it gives you the time you need to refocus and get centered. By the time that I reach number 8, I am usually calm and able to deal with each situation.

Share with me what you do to keep your inner peace when you are in a stressful situation

Inner Peace and Joy Tip #51: Fix the Problem

The Book of Proverbs is loaded with wisdom nuggets. Read Proverbs 20, pull out the wisdom nuggets and apply them to your life.

Maintaining your Inner Peace and Joy is going to require that you go back in your past and fix all of the issues that you are dealing with that are preventing you from living in a state of inner peace and joy.

For myself, I had to deal with the issue of not having a father. The problem that I had to fix was my aloft relationship with men because of my absent father. Over the years, I developed a negative view of my father and that grew into a negative view of men. This negative view has built up over many years and as a result, I never really had a lasting relationship.

I knew that if I wanted to have a lasting relationship, I was going to have to change my views. I made up my mind that I wanted to live a peaceful and joyful life and I that I could not have peace in my life as long as I was holding on to negative emotions.

Forgiveness
Forgiveness played a major role in me fixing my problem of dealing with my absent father because when you forgive you freely give up all negative emotions that you have attached to a person, place or thing and you then make room for positive, joyful emotions that you desire.

I had to forgive my absent father, my mother for whatever role that I thought that she played in my father being absent and even God. I also had to forgive myself.

What Problems From Your Past Do You Need To Fix ?
The changes that I have seen in my life were not dramatic they were very gradual. Working on maintaining your Inner Peace and Joy is not an over night thing. It is going to require patience, persistence and perseverance.

Inner Peace and Joy Tip #49: Be Joyful

Inner Peace and Joy Daily Meditation Tip: The Book of Proverbs is loaded with wisdom nuggets. Read Proverbs 18, pull out the wisdom nuggets and apply them to you life.

It Is Easy To Be Happy When Everything Is Going Well...
I was meditating on the thought that "it is easy to be happy when everything is going well but what about when things are not?

When I am full, I am plenty happy but when I am hungry it is a different story.

When I am comfortable with my weight, then I am happy but when I am overweight I look in the mirror and I do not like the person that I see.

When my money is alright, then so am I but when my money is funny there is nothing to laugh about.

When I am in a loving relationship, the world is mine but when I am single my world has fallen.

Do you get the point that I am making?

Joy vs. Happiness

There is a difference between being Happy and having Joy. Happiness is temporal and it is based on emotions, conditions and circumstances whereas Joy is a mental state of being.

You can have a joyful life once you make up your mind that you are going to be joyful regardless of what is going on in your life. After you make up your mind then you have to work at maintaining your Joy.

I had a conversation with a teenaged girl and during the course of our conversation she said to me "I love myself."

The next thing that she did was showed me the flap under her arms and then she shook each of her arms until the flap waved back and forth in the air.

She then said, I know that I am fat but I still love myself. I just need to lose weight.

Lesson Learned
I learned a valuable lesson from a teenaged girl. The lesson that I learned is that despite it all, I am going to have joy.

My joy is based on my attitude and not on if things are going good or bad.

My joy is based on my attitude and it is not conditioned on if I am full of if I am hungry.

My joy is based on my attitude and it has nothing to do with my weight. I am joyful when my weight is normal and when I am under or over weight.

My joy is based on my attitude and not on the amount of money that I have or do not have.

I am joyful when I am in a relationship and I am joyful when I am not because my joy is not something that is based on my relationship status.

Do you get the picture?

Inner Peace and Joy Tip # 42: Don't Take it Personal

Inner Peace and Joy Daily Meditation Tip: The Book of Proverbs is loaded with wisdom nuggets. Read Proverbs 11, pull out the wisdom nuggets and apply them to your life.

Your Inner Peace and life full of Joy is going to be based on how well you are able to respond to people. Let's face it, the world is full of people and you are going to have to deal with them in some manner or another.

When you come across a person who is negative, do not take it personal! Instead of feeding back into their negativity you can just shrug it off and say "They must be having a bad day, but I am having a wonderful day!"

When you come across a person who is rude, do not take it personal! Their rudeness is not because of something you did, or even who you are. Their rudeness is based on who they are. Instead of responding in a negative manner, just shrug it off and say "God, I hope that their day improves!"

Remember, just because you have decided to maintain your mental state of peace and live a life full of joy does not mean that everybody has made the same decision or are even happy that you have made that choice.

You may find that many people will see that you are peaceful and joyful and they will set out to try to destroy your peace and your joy. You have to stand firm and recognize what they are attempting to do and do not take it personal.

If you take it personal, you will be holding on to hurtful thoughts and emotions and it will counter act your inner peace and your joy

Inner Peace and Joy Tip #41: Use Wise Judgment

Inner Peace and Joy Daily Meditation Tip : The Book of Proverbs is loaded with wisdom nuggets. Read Proverbs 10, pull out all of the wisdom nuggets and apply them to your life.

Maintaining your inner peace and living a life full of joy is going to be based on the decisions that you make. In fact, you are where you are today based on the decisions that you made in the past. If you want to have a different mental state then you are going to have to do things different.

You Must Be Able To Make Wise Decisions
The way that you are going to make wise decisions is by using wise judgment. Before you make a decision, know all of the facts and the consequences of your decisions. Will it be in your best interest to do the thing that you are pondering? Once you know the answer, you have to stand firm and do what is right.

Every Action has a Re-action
Every action that you take, every word that you speak and even your thoughts have a reaction. Once, you know this, then you have to work on making sure that your actions are going to produce a reaction that benefits you. Before you make decision, ask yourself "What are the results of your decisions? Who all will be effected? Will the results be productive or counter productive?"

If you want to maintain your inner peace and live a life full of joy you are going to have to make wise choices and you are going to need to weigh your decisions to make sure that the end results will be constructive and not detrimental to your progress.

Inner Peace and Joy Tip #40: Be Able to Adapt to Change

Inner Peace and Joy Daily Meditation Tip: The Book of Proverbs is loaded with wisdom nuggets. Read Proverbs 9, pull out the wisdom nuggets and apply them to your life.

Much of maintaining your mental state of peace and living a life full of joy is going to be in your ability to adapt to change.

Change is CONSTANT

People change, Time change, Situations change, Circumstances change, and You will change.

There is no getting around change. You have to learn how to deal with change.

I remember when my sister had her child. My family dynamics was no longer the same. Prior to the birth of my nephew, I was considered my mothers baby. With the new addition to our family, my nephew became the new baby.

I was no longer getting all of the attention. I had to learn to adapt to my new role of auntie verses being my mother's baby.

Adapting To Your New Role
In life, you are going to be faced with several new roles. For example. You went from child, to teenager, to young adult, to adult, to elder. These are all different roles and requires that you change in order to adapt to your new responsibilities

You may be faced with the role of parent, wife or husband and the role of being divorced. Your company may be advancing technologically and you may have to adapt to the role of learning new technology verses being industrial

When you are faced with adapting to life, surround yourself with mentors and people who can guide you. Mentors are good because they have already experienced what you are going through.

Inner Peace and Joy Tip #33: Run Your Life Like A Business

Inner Peace and Joy Daily Meditation Tip : The Book of Proverbs is loaded with nuggets of wisdom. Read Proverbs 2, pull out the wisdom nuggets and apply it to your life

Many people are not experiencing inner peace and joy because they do not know how to mind their own business. They are so busy minding other people's business that they are neglecting their own business.

You might say, "I do not have a business to mind" but you do. You are your business. Your peace and your joy is a part of your business.

Tips for Minding Your Business
1. Tend to Your Health-If you are not healthy then it is going to be difficult to concentrate on maintaining your inner peace and experiencing joy. Make sure that you are eating right and exercising right

2. Tend to Your Finances- If you have more money going out than you have coming in, it is going to be difficult to maintain your inner peace and experience joy because if a need arises you are not going to be prepared

3. Tend to your Relationships-If you are around negative people and people who mean you no good, it is definitely going to be a struggle maintaining your inner peace. Surround yourself around loving positive people and people who are motivators.

It is your responsibility to maintain your inner peace and joy. If you are constantly minding the goings and comings of others you will not have enough time to devote to doing what you need to do in order to run your life efficiently.

Do not let anyone take your Joy or your Peace away from you. Your Joy and your Peace are your gifts from God. You have to stand firm and do not give them away to anyone.

Inner Peace and Joy Tip #24: Laugh, Laugh and then Laugh some more

Inner Peace and Joy Daily Meditation: The Book of Proverbs is loaded with wisdom nuggets. Read Proverbs 24, pull out the wisdom nuggets and apply them to your life

You can tell a joyful person just by observing them in action. Joyful people find every opportunity to laugh at the little things in life. A part of maintaining your inner joy is laughing. Here are some suggestion:

  • Get with some good friends and laugh about old times and new times.
  • Look at the funnies in the newspaper
  • Watch a comedy movie
  • Tell a joke
  • Go to a comedy show
  • Watch the cartoons

  • This is something to make you Laugh

A man was being tailgated by a stressed-out woman on a busy boulevard. Suddenly, the light turned yellow just in front of him. He did the right thing, stopping at the crosswalk, even though he could have beaten the red light by accelerating through the intersection.

The tailgating woman was furious and honked her horn, screaming in frustration, as she missed her chance to get through the intersection, dropping her cell phone and makeup.
As she was still in mid-rant, she heard a tap on her window and looked up into the face of a very serious police officer

The officer ordered her to exit her car with her hands up. He took her to the police station where she was searched, fingerprinted, photographed, and placed in a holding cell. After a couple of hours, a policeman approached the cell and opened the door. She was escorted back to the booking desk where the arresting officer was waiting with her personal effects.

He said, 'I'm very sorry for this mistake.
You see, I pulled up behind your car while you were blowing your horn, flipping off the guy in front of you, and cussing a blue streak at him.'
I noticed the 'What Would Jesus Do bumper sticker,
the 'Choose Life' license plate holder,
the 'Follow Me to Sunday-School' bumper sticker,
and the chrome-plated Christian fish emblem on the trunk.

Naturally....I assumed you had stolen the car.' Priceless

Inner Peace and Joy Tip # 23: Control Your Emotions

Inner Peace and Joy Daily Meditation: The Book of Proverbs is loaded with wisdom nuggets. Read Proverbs 23, pull out the wisdom nuggets and apply them to your life

The way that you are going to experience a life of inner peace and joy is by controlling your emotions.
You can not let your emotions go haywire and expect to experience peace and joy. Here are some tips for helping you to control your emotions.

    Tip:Control Your Temper
You have to learn to take control of your temper. Everyday you are not going to wake up and be peaceful and joyful. There are certain things and actions that you must take in order to maintain an inner state of peace and joy. You must Decide every morning to Be Peaceful and Joyful.

Tip "Don't Be Wishy Washy":You should not be perceived as moody; one moment you are smiling and then the next moment people have to walk on egg shells just to keep from upsetting you. Instead people should love to see you coming because every time that they see you, they can see your inner glow and say "You are always smiling". Inner Peace starts from within, You have to decide that regardless of your outside circumstances you are still going to maintain a state of inner peace and joy.

Tip: Leave Your Baggage at the Front Door
Let's face it, everyday is not going to be sunshine. You are going to have some days when you are challenged to maintain your state of inner peace and joy. If you are not having a good day, please do not subject others to your pain. Instead, leave your baggage at the front door and suck it up. Whatever happened before you got to work does not concern the people that you are encountering now. Decide before you enter the door that you are going to be a " Beacon of Light" and that you are going to "Uplift someone's spirits today"

Inner Peace and Joy Tip #22: Make Your Haters Your Motivators!

Inner Peace and Joy Daily Meditation: The Book of Proverbs is loaded with wisdom nuggets, Read Proverbs 22, pull out the wisdom nuggets and apply them to your life

Maintaining your mental state of inner peace and living a life full of joy is going to be partly based on how you deal with negative people. Let's face it, negative people are in the world and there is no getting around them . Your mental state of inner peace is going to be based on how you respond to negative people.

    Hater/ By Maya Angelou

A hater is someone who is jealous and envious and spends all their time trying to make you look small so they can look tall. They are very negative people to say the least. Nothing is ever good enough!

When you make your mark, you will always attract some haters... That's why you have to be careful with whom you share your blessings and your dreams, because some folk can't handle seeing you blessed... It's dangerous to be like somebody else... If God wanted you to be like somebody else, He would have given you what He gave them! Right?

You never know what people have gone through to get what they have. The problem I have with haters is that they see my glory, but they don't know my story. If the grass looks greener on the other side of the fence, you can rest assured that the water bill is higher there too!

We've all got some haters among us! Some people envy you because you can: a) Have a relationship with God b) Light up a room when you walk in c) Start your own business d) Tell a man / woman to hit the curb (if he / she isn't about the right thing) e) Raise your children without both parents being in the home Haters can't stand to see you happy.Haters will never want to see you succeed. Most of our haters are people who are supposed to be on our side.

How do you handle your undercover haters? You can handle these haters by: 1. Knowing who you are & who your true friends are *(VERY IMPORTANT!!) 2.. Having a purpose to your life: Purpose does not mean having a job. You can have a job and still be unfulfilled. A purpose is having a clear sense of what God has called you to be.. Your purpose is not defined by what others think about you. 3. By remembering what you have is by divine prerogative and not human manipulation.

Fulfill your dreams! You only have one life to live...when its yourtime to leave this earth, you 'want' to be able to say, 'I've lived my life and fulfilled 'my' dreams,... Now I'm ready to go HOME! When God gives you favor, you can tell your haters, 'Don't look at me...Look at Who is in charge of me...'

Inner Peace and Joy: Tip #21 Count Your Blessings

Inner Peace and Joy Daily Meditation: The Book of Proverbs is loaded with wisdom nuggets. Read Proverbs 21, pull out the wisdom nuggets and apply them to your life

    When You are Feeling Down...
If you are feeling the effects of today's economy (downsized job, financial crunch, foreclosed home) you can easily start to focus on everything that is going wrong in the world and in your life instead of things that are going right.

    Count Your Blessings
When you focus on the negative things that are going on in your world, it disturbs your inner peace and joy because negative thoughts makes you feel down instead of joyful. The next time you start to focus on the negativity and you start to feel down you should shift your focus and start focusing on positive thoughts . The best remedy for feeling down is, START COUNTING YOUR BLESSINGS

    Exercise:

    1. Make a list of all the things that you are thankful for. For example: you are thankful for your eyes, for two legs, for your right mind, etc

    2. Add to your list daily

    3. Review your list often.

When you are focused on your blessings, you can see all of the things that are going right in your world instead of what is going wrong. As long as you can keep your attention focused on what is good, you will be uplifted and joyful.
